Get ready and schedule your car driver theory test at theorytest.ie. Official RSA-approved revision materials are available online and via the learning app.
You can apply for a learner’s permit either online or at your nearest National Driver Licence Service (NDLS) centre. This permit allows you to drive on public roads (excluding motorways) for the purpose of learning to drive. As a car learner permit holder, you must always be accompanied by either an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) or someone who has held a full, valid driving licence in the same category for over two years.
Complete the 12 Essential Driver Training (EDT) lessons under the supervision of a qualified ADI instructor as required by the RSA. Each lesson will be recorded in a logbook by your instructor. Your learner’s permit is valid for six months, so it’s important to finish these lessons within that time. We offer lessons in fully insured, dual-controlled cars or you may use your own vehicle with our instructor, provided it has the appropriate insurance.
Once you have completed the 12 EDT lessons and feel confident with your driving skills, you can apply for your driving test. Note that you must have held your first learner permit for at least six months before you can sit for the test. We highly recommend our Pre-Test Course to help refine your skills before your test. Pre-test lessons focus on polishing your techniques and boosting your confidence by addressing any errors.
After attending our pre-test sessions, you’ll be well-prepared for the test. Make sure your car documents are in order, or consider renting one of our cars for the driving test. Your driving instructor will accompany you to the test centre, providing moral support. You can also reach out to us via WhatsApp for live assistance.
Upon passing your driving test, you’ll receive a certificate of competency. Take this certificate to your nearest NDLS centre (or book your appointment online) to exchange it for your full driving licence. Keep in mind that the certificate is valid for two years. Congratulations!
Even after obtaining your full driving licence, you can opt for advanced training to further enhance your driving skills. For instance, the driving test doesn’t cover parallel parking, night driving, or motorway driving. To ensure long-term road safety, it’s crucial to develop good driving habits, stay updated with traffic laws, and continue practicing defensive driving.
